Missions Receiving Casual Support from Lynwood Christian Church

Excerpt*: "What is also pleasing about Open Brethren is their commitment to missionary work. It is estimated, for example, that one per cent of the total number of members in Brethren assemblies are serving on the mission field. By modern standards, this is in excess of almost every Christian denomination. Operation World reports that Brethren fellowships in Canada, USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand together have 1223 missionaries. But, in addition, there are many national workers as well as workers from other countries involved in world mission. The position is that several thousand members are currently working in mission."   (* Source: Cult Awareness & Information Centre by Eryl Davies http://www.caic.org.au/biblebase/brethren/concerning%20cults.htm)

Ruma Abedona Hospice (R.A.H.) - West Bengal, India

Ruma Abedona Hospice for palliative care in West Bengal, India, has been created to be a warm welcoming home-like place that has open doors for anyone suffering from a terminal illness, especially cancer – no distinctions are made. By the time a victim reaches the hospice in West Bengal, they have usually been given no hope of life by their doctor and have spent all their finances (if they had any) on trying to find a cure. At the hospice they find compassionate, understanding, kind, caring people who seek to support them in the remaining time they have left to live. The palliative care centre in West Bengal was opened and dedicated on 9th February 2005, and is beautifully appointed and finished – it is an “oasis in the desert”. The centre offers its services free of charge, however clients are asked to assist financially if they possibly can. “Abedona” means “without pain”. The aim of the centre is to assist the client to be as pain and fear free as possible, and give support to their family. www.rumahospice.org.in

GBA Ship: Logos Hope

Details to come shortly.

BACKGROUND: GBA Ships - Serving others with ocean-going ships began in 1970 with the purchase of the original Logos. Since then the ships (Logos, Doulos, Logos II and now Logos Hope) have visited 500 different ports in 160 countries and territories and welcomed 40 million visitors on board. Our goal is to bring knowledge, help and hope to the people of the world. The ships visit each port for several weeks each and open the gangways to hundreds and sometimes thousands of visitors each day. On average, over one million visitors have been welcomed onboard every year! The floating book fairs offer over 6,000 titles, providing many visitors their first-ever opportunity to purchase a wide range of quality literature. An international crew and staff of volunteers live and work on the ships. Teams from the ship go into surrounding areas to supply aid and community care. In each port, the ship’s crew partners with local community groups to bring hope and show love to people whatever their circumstance, culture or background.   www.gbaships.org

Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child is a unique project of Samaritan's Purse which brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes. It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, but hands-on, project which has the power to transform children's lives. In 2009 our teams in Australia and New Zealand delivered over 300,000 gift-filled shoeboxes to South East Asia and the South Pacific. Globally, Samaritan's Purse distributed an estimated 7.6 million shoeboxes to children in 105 countries. As each shoe box gift is delivered, it is treasured by the child who receives it and is a lasting reminder that he or she is precious to God.

Lynwood Christian Church's Involvement

Since 1999 we have produced 2,652 shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse! This is a testament to Lynwood's desire to reach children with God's Word and serve Him in a practical way. The Shoebox Ministry team has seen it's numbers dwindle, although the enthusiasm for this ministry remains strong. Please pray for guidance for the future of this ministry here at Lynwood after this year's outreach. We encourage individuals to fill their own boxes (these will be provided from the church office when available) and/or get involved on the two or three packing days we will hold in August/September. Any queries, please see Linda Russell.

Zimbabwe Focus

Zimbabwe Orphan Care (ZOC) is a registered UK based charity working in Harare, Zimbabwe. The charity was established by Alan & Dorothy Graham (originally from Belfast) in 2000 to help orphaned children and abandoned babies in the Harare area. Zimbabwe is among one of the poorest countries in the world with very high unemployment and HIV/Aids having wiped out a whole generation.
Jabulani Children's Home -  Over recent years there has been a distressing trend in Zimbabwe of babies being 'dumped' after they are born. This can be for a number of reasons but often key factors are an inability to care for the baby, or an unwanted pregnancy due to rape. To help address this trend, in 2008 ZOC purchased a house with four acres in the Marlborough district of Harare. Although the house was in need of much repair, with the donations received we were able to renovate, extend and complete the main home in May 2009. The main house can facilitate 12 abandoned babies and phase 2 of the project (due to be completed mid 2010) will see the construction of two more homes on the site. We have worked closely with local social services and council officers to ensure everything is done legally in the building and running of Jabulani. We have been commended on the way Jabulani was built, and is now being run. It is unlike any other children's home in Zimbabwe, or even Africa due to the care, love and attention every individual child gets each and every day. It is our intention that this house can offer a hope, a home and a future to all these children for life.

We help place Christians with professional skills in China and other Asian countries, and share the love of Christ with East Asians worldwide. In 2006 OMF International began praying for 900 new workers to reach the gospel neglected frontiers among East Asia's peoples. Now in 2010, 449 of those workers have been provided by praying for the remaining 441 you can play a part in reaching East Asia's millions.     www.omf.org

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

(Front row: Liam and Caitlin.)

Youth Ministries Australia is currently partnering with the Churches of Blacktown in Schools group [COBIS] to assist with the placement and equipping of schools workers in the Western Suburbs of Sydney. Within this region there are Christian students feeling alone and isolated; Christian teachers feeling overwhelmed, and disengaged young people who may not receive biblical teaching and modelling any other way! State High School workers serve the school community to which they are assigned providing religious instruction, but in so doing sensitively address the social, emotional and spiritual needs of staff, students and families. The harvest is plentiful - the workers are few!

BACKGROUND: Youth Ministries Australia was founded in 1979 by Bill and Faye Hodgson as the youth ministry arm of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia. From our beginning we have served the local church in equipping those with a ministry amongst youth in building Jesus-centred church and school-based ministries. YMA’s National Ministry Leader is Dave Huddleston. Dave lives in Melbourne with his wife Judy and their four children. Dave has a background in both local church and high school youth ministry. He and Judy have also lived in Adelaide, Perth and Sydney and have been associated with YMA for 18 years. They are passionate about seeing leaders raised up to influence this generation for Jesus.     www.yma.com.au

Tarsha's Legacy Centre

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Opened in May 2008 in the New Happy Village at Koh Krobey in Kandal Province. It is named after Natarsha Charlesworth, a 22 year old trainee teacher from Australia, who wanted to come to Cambodia and teach the children in Happy Village, but sadly passed away in a white water rafting accident in October 2007. This education centre now provides regular English, Khmer, arts and crafts, story classes and spiritual input for nearly 100 children. They not only receive education, but also health care and a nutritional meal each day to help them grow and develop into the children God created them to be! Since TLC began we have seen these many of these children move from being at the bottom of their class at the local Government school to being top students! These children have so much potential; all they need is the support and encouragement to help them achieve all that they have the ability to achieve! Would you consider sponsoring a child at TLC for AUD$40 per month, so that this vital ministry can continue? Our dream is to see these children build a brighter future not only for themselves, but for the nation of Cambodia.

http://www.fellowshipofhope.net/projects/tarshas-legacy-centre/

BACKGROUND: Tarsha's Legacy Centre - With an acronym like TLC (which could also stand for Tender Loving Care) is bound to equip, empower and enrich the lives of Cambodian children in a loving, caring environment. Patrick and Carol Kelly have been involved in a huge initiative - to re-locate and house people who were being evicted from an inner-city slum area. A Khmer pastor, Sara, has a huge heart for his people within the slum and together with Patrick and Carol and and his wife Shansi, Pastor Sara has been looking to God for an answer. Out of all this has come the purchase of a 90 metre x 10 metre block of land not far from Phnom Penh, where 18 small (6m x 4m) homes have been built. A whole new community has been formed. Further, a school has been opened on the property. Called 'Tarsha's Legacy Centre' (in remembrance of Natasha, a young Tasmanian lady who lived a short earthly life, but whose passion for the poor lives on) this school serves not only the new community but also children in the immediate district. Shansi heads up the school of 90 children, together with a great team of staff.

Working for God full-time is a noble and viable career option!

The harvest is ready, but the workers are few.

The time is short.

Challenge Literature Fellowship is a non-profit organisation. We publish an evangelistic newspaper to encourage and help Christians to share their faith regularly and to give readers the opportunity to learn about Jesus Christ. Challenge was established over 20 years ago. By the grace of God the past ten years have seen significant increases in our monthly print run distributed by churches and individuals in Australia, New Zealand and Africa. We are blessed to have our own premises in Perth at Wattle Grove, on the Keswick Campsite block; and a stable team of full and part-time workers who have gifts that enhance various aspects of the ministry. Apart from the Challenge newspaper, we offer a printing service to the church and missions communities.

Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) International provides lay participants the tools, the environment, the relationships, and the support needed to grow deeper in knowledge and understanding of God and the Bible. This comprehensive inter-denominational Bible study program helps you gain a practical understanding of this important book. What makes BSF unique today is what made BSF unique in that first Bible study more than 50 years ago: a Four-Fold Approach to learning. BSF studies throughout the U.S. and around the world all utilize these four elements: 1) Daily questions for individual Bible study; 2) Discussion groups; 3) Challenging lectures; 4) Study notes. This approach is consistent with each of BSF's eight yearlong studies that coincide with the school-year calendar: John, Isaiah, Acts of the Apostles, History of Israel and the Minor Prophets, Romans, Genesis, Matthew, The Life of Moses. While this is a comprehensive 33-week study, it is also designed for you to jump into it at any time.
