Connect Groups

Monday to Thursday - Fellowship and Bible studies are held at various homes at various times (for all ages). If you are new to the Lynwood church, these small groups are are great place to get to know a few people in the church in a more personal way, plus study the bible in a place where questions are encouraged. LCC would like to see every person in the church family involved in a home group or regular ministry team group. This can also bring individual support, help and accountability from friends we have made in our small community. You can join an existing group or start a new one in your area, so please contact Barry Cleminson for inquiries or Steve Russell for the Young Adults group.

Creative Worship Team

Worship is all about GOD and only HIM. We are just instruments to make it happen. All focus must only be on JESUS. Jesus is the only one who can bring peace, joy and comfort to everyone. This year it will be all about training and getting the team to work as one. We had a get together a few weeks ago to look some ways to improve the team. We had some very good feedback and are looking into improving those areas first. We will be sending some people for external training. We will also be doing some internal training and workshop to improve ourselves. We are looking forward towards Christmas time when we as a worship team can bring the Joy and Peace of our LORD to the people. There will only be one person gloried this Christmas and that will be Jesus Christ. If you play a music instrument or would like to be involved in some other way in the Creative Worship Team at LCC, please contact James Solomon.

Discipleship Relationships

We have a number of people who are ready to disciple those who are looking to grow deeper into the Word of God on a one to one basis. If you would like to become involved in this Discipleship Ministry as either a 'Disciple' (learner of God's Word), or as a 'Mentor' (to be available as teacher/encourager), please see Mark MedhurstThe mandate for this Discipleship Ministry lies in the great commission Jesus gave his Disciples found in Matt 28:18-20 - "To make disciples... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." From this ministry many have been enriched in their faith, some have committed their life to Christ, and some have been baptised as a public witness for Jesus. This assures us that it is God's will to have a Discipleship Ministry as an intentional ministry of the church. Contact Mark Medhurst for inquiries.

Fellowship Team

Info from the August 2010 AGM - We formed the Fellowship Committee 'officially' at the end of 2009 and our first event was a New Year's Day Family Picnic. We held a M.A.S.H. (Meal At Someone's Home) in May with lots of people showing interest in being involved. Our next major event is the Church Family Camp, and Reggie is heading up a team of people to run this. It promises to be a great time of relaxation and fun while getting to know our church family members better and will be held at CYC Camp Cooloongup, Baldivis. We have several ideas of events to plan over the next 12 months, but are always open to ideas and suggestions. Please contact Lyn Wiltshire for info.

JAM (Jesus And Me) & Kids Club

Thursday 4:00 to 5:30 pm - For children in Primary School to Year 6, for an afternoon of fun activities, including craft, cooking and games. Semester One's finale was a visit from the GYMBUS. Through JAM devotions the children have been learning about the Seven Days of Creation (Term 1) and the 9 Fruits of the Spirit (Term 2). They really enjoy learning new things and we love sharing God's word with them. Semester One 2010 has been the first time in over 10 years that we have the separation of the ages into Jam and the new Kids Club. Mark Medhurst has been running Kids Club which is for years 5-7. We have also had some combined weeks which the children enjoy as well as sharing afternoon tea together each week. As of next year children in year 7 will not be attending Youth Group, but staying in Kid's Club till the start of high school. Mrs Glenys Cave and Mrs Marjorie Diggens have been such a blessing to the team this past semester. They both made a commitment to come and prepare the afternoon tea each week. This leaves Carolyn, Stephanie and Anthea to supervise and spend time with the children. We are hoping for more kitchen helpers so that these ladies can have a break and we can share the responsibility around. Please contact Anthea McCormick for inquiries.

Junior Church Ministry

Sunday 9:30 - 11:00 am  After some singing (usually with piano, guitar and drums) and worship, the younger children attend Junior Church while the older children and adults listen to a message from the Pastor, a missionary, or a guest speaker. Visitors and their children are very welcome and this service is followed by morning coffee or tea. This year we decided to change the way Junior Church was run. With more leaders we were able to have three levels. The levels consisted of Pre Primary to year 3, years 4/5 and God's Preteens. This worked out well, for the children were able to be taught in their age appropriate levels. It also helped to have the leaders commit to a semester so that relationships could be built up with the students. The students were willing to share more as they got to know the leaders better. The leaders have planning and training times occasionally, and we are always seeking new volunteers in this vital ministry for Christ.

Children's Talks on Sunday Mornings - During the school holidays when there is no normal Junior Church operating, we always have a story for the children as part of the main Sunday Worship time and also have children's activity sheets for the kids to work on during the rest of the meeting. The children's talks have been presented in many different ways this year with dramas, singing and visual aids for the children (and adults as well) and have been very well received. We have been able to laugh and join in with the actions in singing. Please contact Shirley McAlees for inquires in this ministry area at Lynwood CC.

Line Dancing

Tuesday 10:00 am to 12:00 pm - Lynwood Christian Church has a Line dancing class which runs from 10am to 12noon every Tuesday during school terms. The teachers are Barry and Ronnie Cleminson who cater for beginners and those with intermediate experience. The cost is a token amount of $2.00 each, and morning tea is provided at 11 am. Our classes are 12 to 20 people each week and we welcome new people for a friendly time of fun and exercise. You are most welcome to join us to keep fit and enjoy doing it. Please contact Barry Cleminson for inquiries.

Lynwood Church Eldership

Info excerpts from the August 2010 AGM -

GOALS FOR 2010
In our General Meeting in March, we shared about our various goals over the past 5 years and how far we had come in fulfilling those goals. We felt that we would be still building on those goals this year, but next year is likely to bring a whole new direction for the future. At the Elders and Key Leaders retreat at the beginning of the year, we set a number of focus areas for 2010:
• Outreach
• Children & Youth
• Mission Trips
• Prayer
We want to focus our efforts this year on these four areas and grow in them as a church. We want to take the opportunity at this AGM to re-focus our efforts on these items. There are many things happening in the life of the church at the moment, but these are important areas that we want to see the church grow in. If you're looking for somewhere to serve, consider how you can contribute to these areas. In particular our children's ministries always need willing hands.

LOOKING FORWARD
We believe that God has a whole new challenge in store for us as a church, particularly with the purchase of the land next door. It seems that God has been preparing us over the past few years for this next phase. All of our experiences with welcoming, creative worship, Introducing God, discipleship training etc. all seem to be paving the way for God's next stage in the life of the church. Although we are still seeking God to make clear the direction for the future, we are continuing to progress with what he has already revealed, trusting Him for the next step. But, in the middle of God's blessing, let's not forget that we still need to be faithful in service and faithful in prayer. We need to avoid bitterness and division and seek greater unity and care for one another. Jesus said "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matt 22:37-40. And how many of us have no further to grow in loving God and showing love to others? "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." I Pet 4:8. Please keep praying for all of the leaders in the church, as we seek to follow God's direction and to serve as He has equipped us. Also pray that we will discern God's leading as we head into new horizons. The theme for the upcoming church Camp will be "If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat" and we think it is so appropriate for this coming year. We need to have the faith to expect great things from God and not tremble at our lack of ability or the size of the task, but look to God who gives us strength in our weakness to do great things for Him. Hudson Taylor famously said "God's work, done God's way will never lack God's supplies."  Steve Russell - on behalf of the Elders.

The current Elders at Lynwood Christian Church are:

Barry Cleminson         Graham Malthouse           Mark Medhurst                Steve Russell

Missions Team

Info from the August 2010 AGM - There has been considerable interest in missionary workers in the past year as the church has been made more aware of them through the promotional work of the Missions Awareness Team. In lifting the mission profile we must say a special thank you to Martin Silver who has undertaken to produce a monthly edition of missionary news and highlights from those we support as a church. This regular update also includes a list of those we support financially so we can also support them in prayer. In the new year we will be highlighting the work being done by air and sea by following the ministries of two ships, the O.M. ship 'Logos Hope', where Pam Statham is serving as a teacher, and also the work of medical missionaries working with 'Mercy Ships'. By air we will be following the work of the Cavills, who fly from Longreach in central Queensland to outback stations, schools, and communities sharing the good news of the gospel. There are two main fund-raising objectives for the coming year, support for a team to go to Zimbabwe, and a project to produce an updated printing of the N.T. and Psalms in the West Bengali language, which will be supervised by Santanu Chokraborty, the director of the Rhuma Abedona Hospice. Please contact Graham Malthouse for info.
Shoebox Report
We presented 313 shoeboxes to Samaritan's Purse in 2009, at a cost of $2,504 for delivery. Once again this was paid for by someone outside the Church. This year the cost associated with shoeboxes has risen from $8 to $9 per box. We are very excited to be able to continue this special project through the generosity of our members and the dedication of our team who come together each year with their own special skills and talents. We look forward to launching this year's shoebox project in the next few weeks.  Please contact Linda Russell for inquiries.

Outreach and Evangelism

Info from the August 2010 AGM - Outreach and evangelism is a responsibility of all those who call Jesus as Lord and Saviour, not just a specialized team. Therefore when we have opportunity for participation in outreach, please consider how you can contribute according to your gift, strengths and passion. The outreach/evangelism Key Leader role is one that oversees, with the Pastor, what events and activities God would have us be involved in and teams are established from this, i.e. teams for specific event.

Bring a friend Service
We have held two special "Bring a Friend" services; one has included a light breakfast from 8.30 am for visitors. For those visitors who did come, the breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed and allowed a special and quieter time to have meaningful conversation before the service.

Cafe Church
There has been one Church Cafe service which was well received and attended by a few visitors. There was some thought that maybe the young adults would take this on but this requires further discussion. There is another service planned for later this year.

Community Fair
This is still a work in progress and may be held in conjunction with the Zimbabwe trip.

Discipleship Training Day
We have had a very successful discipleship training day with great attendance and many willing and passionate men & women now available to be involved in this ministry. I have been thinking that we need to do a course such as "Raising the Flag" which is an evangelistic course that actually teaches us how to build the bridges that lead to spiritual conversations. People cannot receive and believe the gospel message unless they hear it. The church is the voice of this message. Please be ready to be that voice as we as individuals and a church proclaim Jesus Christ to the world.

Introducing God
There have been two Introducing God courses since last August, and another Introducing God Course will be run at the Church again starting after the family camp, probably in Sept/October. Feedback & review from the last courses identified that all facilitators do need training and supporting materials to assist them. Please pray that this course will again be fruitful and that God will draw people to himself through it.
Ladies Ministry
The focus of ladies ministry is outreach into our community and family & friends. A team of ladies formed early this year and meet for prayer on a regular basis. From this time of prayer we believe God is leading us to focus on activities that are focused on encouraging women to build a deeper relationship with their Heavenly Father. If you have a passion for women we would love you to join us in this vital ministry. We have given the team a name:
PEGS - keeping you on the line! - Pray, Encourage, Grow, Share - Gods Word. This has led to '+L', the God Empowered Wife course, conducted twice already; 4 Ladies afternoon tea -focus on mentoring women-guest speaker- Karen Haught: Discipleship training workshop which resulted in a great number of women now available and willing to disciple and or mentor younger women. There are many women in our community who are lonely and hurting, they are craving other women who will reach out and touch them with the love of Jesus "the Great Shepherd" who laid down his life for us and leads us beside the still waters.

Please see Gladys Burgess for any inquires in this above Lynwood CC ministries area.

Property and Finance Team

This ministry team looks after the building complex and general finances for the church, and so if you are of the 'handy-person' type, you could offer your expertise to be added to the list of helpers to be used from time to time.

Welcoming Team

This ministry provides a warm and friendly welcome to any visitors to Lynwood CC, and ensures they are looked after when the service ends, giving them the opportunity to ask questions about us as a church and talk about their needs, if they would like to do so. Over the past year we have had a number of visitors, some were on holiday, some looking for a new church, and some came because they were invited by a church member. If we feel they are searching for a new church, we like to invite them to our homes for lunch and give them the time they need to get to know us a little. Hopefully they will then feel more comfortable to talk about their needs. As a team we would like a few more couples to join us and share in the ministry with us. We would really like a few younger people on our team. I am pleased to see that many of our church members get alongside our visitors without needing to be asked, which is as it should be. If you are a member of LCC and would like to prayerfully consider sharing in this important ministry, please speak to Barry Cleminson.

Youth Ministries

Youth Group

For school years 7-12 - Our program over the term normally consists of 8 or 9 consecutive nights. We generally have 3 "out nights" and the rest are "in nights". Some out nights have included trips to Dark Zone, Pot Black, Leisure Centre, Ten Pin Bowling, Night time games and a Progressive dinner. On such nights the kids have opportunity to enjoy the company of their friends and unwind from the school week. On "in nights" the kids have enjoyed activities including, games nights, indoor movies and chillaxing nights where they are free to play pool, basket ball, table tennis and foosball. Michael Gardiner, Josie Roelofs and Paul McAlees have had the privilege of growing their relationships with the youth. They continue to learn more about them as they share their weeks and stories with them. Paul has had the honour of being able to share devotions with the youth at the end of the "in nights". The devotions have been on a variety of topics but they have all centred on the one topic of God and the fact that He is the only God and He is worthy of following his commands. The leaders meet and discuss various issues like term programs including who is running what part of the night, success and failures of nights as well as pray for the ministry. Our vision is this: Develop a large God centred Youth Group where kids can learn and grow spiritually, in a fun safe environment, which strives to achieve a greater connection with the youth of the local community to achieve Ultimate Awesomeness. We strive to do this by running a program that promotes Godly characteristics such as love, joy peace, patience, kindness etc. We have plans to have a big event towards the end of the year. Please contact Paul McAlees for inquiries.
Young Adults
Over the year we have seen the Young Adults becoming more and more involved in church activities. Such activities include the Cafe Service, Leading the Sunday morning Service and Children talks. The young adults bible study which is held every Wednesday night is going very well and as we reflect on the year gone by, we have seen the group really focusing during the each night. We can see a stronger bond and openness, and continue to encourage each other and also gently rebuke each other so that we are continuing to grow in the image of Christ, as well as in numbers over the year. As the Key Leader of Youth/Young Adults Paul is currently in the progress of defining a clear vision for this ministry. There are plans to run special events that will strengthen the group as well as teach, grow and unite them as a solid unit of Christ's followers. Please contact Paul McAlees for inquiries.
